Top 5 Funniest Soccer Commercials
Hi everyone,
TV commercials, love them or hate them, make up a big part of our daily lives. I personally love watching them and analysing them like a film critic would do to a new movie at the cinema. This may sound wierd, because it is. But occasionally you find some really great adverts around that make you laugh out loud…and remember what the ad is for!
So today I’ve made a list for you of my top 5 funniest soccer commercials. These are by well known brands who are famous for their ingenious ad campaigns as well as their products. So have a watch and let me know which ones are your favourites as well. Maybe you’d put them in a different order, or maybe you’d include different adverts altogether. Like many things, this is subjective. But one thing is for sure, all the ads below are quite popular and for that reason it’s a safe bet to say they are really, pretty funny.
5) Wickes – Ronaldo Dives
Cristiano Ronaldo recently (summer 09) completed an £80m transfer from Man Utd to Real Madrid because he is arguably the greatest player on the planet now. But besides his goals, free kicks and fancy footwork, he is also known for his ability to go down under pressure. Wickes have captured this public house perception perfectly to create what I think is a hillarious advert. It’s simple and not hugely glamorous, but I’ll tell you one thing- it does the job.

4) Pepsi – Roberto Carlos
For most of this I wasn’t sure where it was going at all. But wait for the end and it all makes sense eventually. It’s very funny, but I’m sure no offence is meant by what happens.

3) Pepsi – Soccer Battle
With tense music, a medievil setting and a clear plotline, this advert is both clever and exciting. Clearly the Pepsi looks out of place and so it stands out all the more as it’s presence is comical within the setting. The impressive array of world soccer stars from Beckham and Roberto Carlos to Ronaldinho make the commercial all the more gripping and appealing. I am normally very critical of TV ads, but the whole atmosphere and context of this one is simply genius.

2) Wickes – For the Goalies Amongst You
Wickes have made several fantastic soccer adverts, but here’s one that I like particularly because I play in goal. There’s a fantastic save, followed by a funny twist for those of you that haven’t seen this commercial before. See what you think.

1) Carlsberg – Probably the Best Lager in the World
This advertising slogan has fast become TV legend. They’ve come up with many adverts which say: ‘Carlsberg don’t do …, but if they did they’d probably be the best … in the world. Carlsberg- probaly the best lager in the world’. This is a classy catchline and here is a hillarious soccer advert to go with it. Carlsberg top my list- who tops yours?
