Shield the Soccer Ball
I hardly think you’ll be suprised to hear that shielding the soccer ball is useful for keeping possession by stopping your opponent getting to the ball.
Now it’s really not that difficult you’ll be glad to know: the key is to get your body in between the ball and the opponent.
1) Place the ball at your feet
2) A player from the opposition is behind you trying to get to it
3) Get into a position where you feel strong and sturdy
3) Lean backwards into the player with your arms out to balance
4) When they try to get through to the ball you will be in the way and will not budge
5) When they try to get round the side of you, move with them so they are always blocked by the back of you
6) If it gets too close for comfort, don’t be afraid to take a couple of touches and move very slightly away with the ball- keep your arms out to stop them getting round you.
So that’s shielding in the bag, why not try tackling?
