In this page I just give you a brief introduction to the various soccer positions. Find out which one (or more) you’d like to read about then just follow the link through to find a whole page dedicated to explaining the roles and requirements of that position.

So if you already play in one of these positions then why not simply add to your knowledge? But if you don’t yet play soccer and you want to find out which position is best for you, then this could also be a great starting point for you!

Goalkeeper

Visit the goalkeeping section to find out why being a goalkeeper can be both the best and the worst of all the soccer positions!

I also explain all about what the goalkeeper has to do to stop the other team from scoring- but this does not just include shot stopping… the goalie’s role covers a whole range of jobs- each of which needs to be mastered to have an all round game.

And finally I go through which attributes you need to be a succesful goalkeeper and I reveal my personal favourite goalkeepers. Learn more about the goalkeeper

Defender

The requirements of a defender differ from full backs to centre backs. But one thing they both have in common is that being a defender is perhaps the soccer position with the least amount of glory attached.

In this section I tell you what it takes to become a defender and what the job of a defender involves. If you are a defender or want to be one then this page is a must read. Learn more about the defender

Midfielder

The term midfielder refers to a number of different types of player. There are the wide attacking midfielders (wingers), the attacking centre-mids and then there are the defensive central midfielders (holding midfielers).

Whichever of these sub-positions suits you, you can learn all about what is invovled and what special skills are needed to succeed. Learn more about the midfielder

Striker

Ahh the striker: the player everyone wants to be when they’re young because they get all the goals and the chance to win all the matches! Maybe so, but there’s definitely more to it…

You can learn all about the role of a striker, the required attributes and find some examples of my favourite ever strikers!! Learn more about the striker

…or you can return home from soccer positions
