Of all the soccer formations, the 2-3-5 is the most attacking with no less than five forwards. This classic formation was used by England and Scotland in the 1880s and so you are now looking at the oldest formation covered in this whole section.
Although the great number of forwards is beneficial for attack, the downside of this formation is of course that you leave just two defenders at the back. Nowadays you would have to think twice about doing this… to say the least. Nevertheless this formation holds its place in the record books so I am duty bound to cover it in this guide. Still, I think that stronger defences should be encouraged.
