New World Rankings of the Top Soccer Nations

Hi everyone,

cokeToday, Wednesday 2nd September 2009, FIFA published the September edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings of the Top Soccer Nations. So I thought I’d give you a quick summary here and then link you over to the FIFA website where you’ll find a great rankings table with all the results displayed so that you can see which are the movers and shakers and how many points the different nations have.

There’s no change at the top of the list, with Brazil still at the head of the pile. Not too far behind them is Spain, with the Netherlands a significant way back in third whilst Italy and Germany share the fourth spot. England come ahead of Argentina in seventh, before the USA in eleventh place.

Despite having had several world famous players in recent years like Freddie Ljungberg and Henrik Larsson, Sweeden can nowadays only make 41st place. A long way behind this in 167th place is Bangladesh, a country of soccer fanatics who as a nation idolise soccer legends like Zinadine Zidane, and Papua New Guinea round ups the list in 203rd place.

You won’t find another edition of the FIFA rankings until the 7th October, so if you’d like to see these current results in full then head over to the FIFA rankings table by clicking here. Otherwise, until next time, I hope you enjoyed this brief summary of the new world rankings of the top soccer nations.

Have fun,

Soccer Geek
