Learn to Play Soccer

Although the whole website (how2playsoccer.com) is designed for soccer fans and beginner players, I thought that today I would make a specific post breaking down the steps for the best ways you can learn to play soccer. So this will naturally include some of the most effective methods of using the information you find here in practice as well as some extra tips you might find helpful.

It is really a simple matter that boils down to just a few things which I’ve listed below. Whilst I can help by giving you all the free information I can on this site, the hard work comes down to you because the harder you work at something, the more likely you are to succeed. To quote the now famous phrase, ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get’!

Visit the Beginners’ Soccer Guide

´

beginners soccer guide screenshotThe most important place to visit to start with if you want to learn to play soccer is the section of this website entitled ‘Beginners Soccer Guide’. If you haven’t visited this part before, then I’ll just let you know now that it covers various basic topics from soccer rules and formations, to soccer positions and gear. Reading this information and learning it to some extent will be invaluable so that you can gain a solid understanding of the game. The greater your understanding of the ins and outs of the game, the greater your adaptability to difficult game situations will be when you get to that stage.

But it’s not just theoretical knowledge you should work to improve. Instead, it’s also essential that you support this by learning all the right techniques for the various skills and then find out how you could put these into practice with the section on free soccer drills. When you come to playing, you will be much better equipped if you have all the theoretical knowledge AND the right techniques under your belt.

Train Individually, Hour After Hour

´

soccer player kick upsOnce you KNOW the techniques of all the basic soccer skills, naturally you need to take action and implement them! Contrary to the views of one UK cartoon character, you cannot learn to play soccer by playing FIFA!

When I was much younger, I used to spend hours and hours playing soccer in between the sessions I would have with my team. It doesn’t always matter how seriously or light heartedly you take these, the important thing is the repetition involved so that you are never without a ball. Run and shoot over and over again, dribble round cones, pass against a wall to practice receiving when it bounces back etc. There are so many little things you can do on your own that will help you in the long run. This can even be really fun if you get into it and putting in many fun hours is a sure way to improve and really learn to play soccer.

In short, if you put in the time and use the right techniques- then you will be learning and improving all the time!

Play With a Team or Friends

Many people still do not know how to kick a soccer ball, so by completing the steps listed above you will be taking a sbig stride ahead of them. But even putting the techniques into action by yourself isn’t the end of it as soccer is more than just skills! It’s also about teamwork, movement, co-ordination, vision and creativity. These are things which, although they come naturally to some, can only really be improved in the context of a team environment. So whether you play at the park with your friends to start with or go straight into playing for a serious club doesn’t matter totally, but you need to surround yourself with other soccer players so you can all benefit! Playing in a team or with people is what soccer is all about, so the sooner you get started the better!

´

So it’s really as simple as all that: use this website as much as you can (especially the beginners’ soccer guide), prctice individualls for hour after hour and then put that to use within a team situation. That will be the process for you to learn to play soccer, and then you can spend a lifetime trying to improve!

You can then take further steps like getting professional coaching, watching lots and lots of soccer on the TV so other people’s talents rub off on you and subscribing to other guides which can help you add the finishing touches to your game. But for now, put in the time and get the right technique and you WILL improve dramatically.

Have fun,

  1. We believe that Yahweh God’s revelation, in and through Jesus Christ and in addition to being present in the sacremental life of the Church, also has a personal or individual aspect. We thus believe that understanding the divine comes from our personal encounter with God through prayer, meditation etc. We strive to form a community of faith with love, devotion and abandonment to God in and through Jesus Christ as our foundation.
