I watch a lot of football, I am a goalkeeper, and would like to add a couple of goalies that really are part of history in south america. Ubaldo Matildo Fillol, world cup champion in 1978…fantastic. you should see some of his saves….

Another one,is a great goalie, a total winner, world champion with Club Velez Sarsfield from Argentina…Jose Luis Chilavert. He is from Paraguay, and played 1998 worldcup in France.

I agree on most of the ones you have mentioned, propably I would also add Buffon from Italy, and please follow the steps of a new goalie that will be a legend. His name is Andrada, from Argentina under-20…now he is a Barcelona player I think…

If I had 5 million dollars, I would invest in this player.

I mean, I think Buffon should defiantly be on the list because he is the best goalie in the world

Cool, thanks for the comment. I am also a goalkeeper and, even though he makes some good saves, I agree Casillas is overrated – we seem to be in a minority with this view, though, so I placed him on this list by popular demand! SG

I am a goal keeper my self and don’t think cassisas should be on this list. Ya he makes a couple of good saves but he just sucks. One of the best goalies of all time is Guillermo Ochoa. He is a beast.

Wow thank you for all the additions Lindsay. Great examples of other goalies and matches for me and others to check out here. Just watched a video of Sepp Maier catching pigeons as you suggested… brilliant!

And yes I see what you mean about Brazil. If only other teams could get close enough to challenge the keeper.

Sepp Maier (sp) Germany – you should see some of the footage of his work between the posts and also catching pigeons.

A few great Scottish goalies if it wasn’t for these guys we’d be even more pathetic !
Simpson for Celtic – check out the 1967 European Cup Final especially the AC Milan goalie
David Harvey – short career – Leeds Utd. early 70s.
Jim Leighton – Aberdeen goalie when Alex Ferguson was manager
Craig Gordon has makings of a long career.

Good choices though

Is it me but I have always felt Brazilian goalies were suspect – if the other 10 men weren’t so bloody good we’d know more.
A classic example – 1974 WC Scotland Brazil game

Good luck with the clean sheets – remember its a “frame of mind”
