Basic Soccer Rules

´

soccerlinesman Maybe the rules are the least exciting aspect of learning something new, but it also seems   common sense to start with them- after all, if you don’t know the rules you won’t know how to bend them!

On a different level, it’s necessary to know how the game works if you’re going to play it. So if you’re completely new to soccer then this section on the basic soccer rules should give you a good idea of what it’s all about. If you already know the basics, then you can always rush on ahead to the more comprehensive section entitled soccer rules. Soccer Gear

´

shinpadsmallWhilst knowing the soccer rules will help your sporting knowledge in general, you can’t begin to feel part of a specific game untill you know about all the different equipment that’s particular to that game. As such, this sub-section is dedicated to discussing all the different gear and kit that’s helpful and often essential to playing soccer safely and correctly.  Two goals and a ball are clearly needed, and in the following page I’ll be writing about all the other bits and pieces the complement these core pieces of equipment.

Soccer Positions

´

soccergoalsmallAs a soccer player, you need to know your place in the team and understand how to hold your position. Goalkeepers stop the other team from scoring, defenders protect the goalie at the back, midfielders take the centre of the pitch and strikers tend to score the most goals. Of course there are many different other roles which overlap, but this is the most basic jist of it. By learning about each of the different positions in turn, you can find out which one you are best suited to. If you already play, then maybe you’ll find some inspiration to help improve your own performance within your particular position. Get reading here.

Soccer Formations

pitchOnce you know all about the different soccer positions, you might like to learn how those positions are arranged on the pitch in different ways. For example, some teams might play more defenders and in different places than others. They might then have only one striker or one less midfielder for instance. Over time, different clubs and nations have tried many different formations to adapt to the pace of the contemporary game. Today the most popular formation is probably the 4-4-2, and with good reason, whichhas four defendes, four midfielders and two strikers. Once you know at least some of the possible combinations, you can decide which you prefer and assess the tactical advantages of each. So if you’re in the mood for some strategic planning, then why not click here to read more about the soccer formations from soccer history?
